Drupal Commerce is brilliantly flexible but installation and setup is not easy for beginners (compared to a simple WooCommerce setup). It would be very helpful to have a recipe where basic shop functionality alongside with some demo products is preconfigured.
Separate recipes could also add in preconfigured payment gateways like Stripe or Paypal.

That's a great idea @roromedia!

Initially, my though was that it shouldn't be enabled by default ... but whichever recipes Starshot will eventually end up having enabled by default, it will always need to be adjusted by the user. I wonder if there should be different Starshot flavors, like these (and more)? Not actual suggestions, but just as an example on how it could be:

  • Default (could be all recipes, except Commerce)
  • Commerce (all recipes, except event and blog)
  • Blog
  • Event site
  • The whole shebang (all recipes enabled)
  • Minimal

Or perhaps Starshot should simply enable all recipes always? After kicking the tires, and figuring out what is needed for a project, the user can always make a fresh start, by removing irrelevant recipes from /recipes/starshot/recipe.yml and starting over.

Actually, now I feel like a Commerce recipe should be included in Starshot, and enabled (as should all recipes) -- simply to give Drupal-curious users a great taste of what is possible with Commerce in Drupal.

A commerce recipe suite is probably out of scope for Starshot itself (although I'm not really the one to make those kinds of decisions, so who knows), but I would +1000 encourage you to build such a recipe suite that could be applied to sites in combination with Starshot recipes. I think that'd be incredibly useful! There's no reason to wait; the recipe system is in Drupal 10.3 and 11. 🚀

A commerce setup would align nicely with the future vision of a 'vertical selector' during install, it could be one of the options here:

This probably won't be an option for the initial release but is definitely something we should work toward. But anyway it would be amazing to have this recipe available to the world in the meantime!
