Max NVME utilization limit? #31845
-
Is there a limit to how many recordings the Comma 3 can make in a day? Likewise, is there a max number of recordings the Comma 3 can store on the NVME? If so, is there a way to raise the limit? I usually download all the video recordings off of my comma 3 via SFTP over the network (potentially for training an ML model in the future) and often times it really feels like some are missing, especially if I drive a lot in one day. I don't have any cold, hard evidence of this happening yet however. I'm aware Openpilot won't function if less than 15% storage is left, perhaps a limit was hardcoded? |

Depends entirely on the size of the NVME. comma three was shipped with 256GB and 1TB options as well as none (the 32GB version). Are you sure you have NVME storage? If you purchased new in the last several months, you have a 3X which doesn't use NVME. |

There is no hardcoded storage limit beyond the policy in deleter (and a similar fallback limit in controls). I don't recall what the 256GB and 1TB options translate to in terms of hours of driving, but it should be pretty straightforward to check the size of one segment directory (which represents one minute of driving) and multiply.
There is a warning if you install something other than a Samsung 980 non-Pro, but this is because there are known to be interop issues with certain other SSDs. Some work but have too-high idle power draw for battery operation, others sometimes don't work at all. The only validated, guaranteed models are the Samsung 980 non-Pro line.
